RHODES
RHODES ISLAND

Rhodes is the largest of the Dodecanese islands of Greece and is also the island group's historical capital. Administratively the island forms a separate municipality within the Rhodes regional unit, which is part of the South Aegean administrative region.

The principal town of the island and seat of the municipality is Rhodes. The city of Rhodes had 50,636 inhabitants in 2011. It is located northeast of Crete, southeast of Athens. Rhodes' nickname is The Island of the Knights, named after the Knights of Saint John of Jerusalem, who ruled the island from 1310 to 1522.

Historically, Rhodes island was very famous worldwide for the Colossus of Rhodes, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. The Medieval Old Town of the City of Rhodes has been declared a World Heritage Site. Today, it is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Europe.The name of the U.S. state of Rhode Island is thought to be based on this island.

THE TOWN OF RHODES

In the center of Rhodes is the small port (Mandraki), from which itineraries are made in the summer for domestic movements of tourists, such as Lindos and other parts of Rhodes. There are also itineraries to other islands aroundthe island, like Symi, and Halki.

At the entrance / exit of the port, there are 2 columns with fawns on a male and a female. Also on the outside of the port are located the three windmills and the fortress of Agios Nikolaos, which offers a unique spectacle for tourists traveling from the port!

During your walk in the center of Rhodes, next to the port you will find the church "Evangelismos", and the Rhodes City Hall.

Elli Beach is located on the north coast of the island, extends along the city from the aquarium to just above the casino. It is the busiest and most cosmopolitan beach in Rhodes, There are water sports, trampoline, and the aquarium located right next to the beach.

Those who enjoy their baths in the summer season from this beach, face a unique view from cruise ships and various ships that cross the beach for the tourist port. Access to the beach is easy either by road or on foot if you are in the center.

Monte Smith, located in the western part of Rhodes from there you can enjoy a panoramic view in the sea and in the city of Rhodes, mainly at sunset where the colors are unique over the city. In Monte Smith many locals do paraglide, and offer a unique spectacleto those who take their walk.

At the top of the hill you can visit the archeological site of the acropolis of Rhodes, which you date in the 3rd-2nd century BC Below the citadel you will find the ancient stadium and the ancient theater.

 

Today the area of the citadel and the stadium is attraction of locals, foreigners, promenade, and leisure.

Stones below(Kato Petres), located west of Monte Smith Hill you can enjoy a quiet walk listening to the echo of the sea waves crashing on the rocks. Ideal place for a walk especially during the sunset.

 

In this place there is a small cave, it is the cave of the Archangel Mich. Panormitis. Where it is worth visiting.

THE OLD TOWN OF RHODES

In the heart of the city of Rhodes is the castle of Knights (Old Town), is a world monument UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1988. 

The entrance to the old town is free, you can walk in old town with your camera you can take your photos. You can also enjoy your coffee, food and drink. The best thing you can do during your walk in the castle of the knights is to visit its museums.

Entering from the gate of freedom you continue to the right you will first find on your right the archeological museum, and in continue on the famous street of the Knights, at the end of the street on the right is the palace of the Grand Master. 

 

In the Palace of the Master, it contains various artistic creations, folk art items from antiquity and the Middle Ages, weapons, medieval tombstones, jewelry, books, paintings, statues and other finds.

In the collections of the archeological museum they are hosted excavation findings from the Italian occupation and newer excavations in Rhodes and the rest of the Dodecanese from Mycenaean, Geometric, Classicaland the Hellenistic period, evenmonumental sculpture of the Roman period, whichaim at highlighting andunderstanding of the ancient history of Rhodes.

In the moat of the old town you can do your walk, admiring the exterior of the castle, and various basements like prisons from those years. The entrance to the moat is at the exit of the gate akantias on the left.

Before leaving the old town, you must visit the clock where located on Orpheus Street. You can enjoy panoramic view of the old town and take photos.

RODINI PARK

On the road to Lindos, 3 km from the city of Rhodes is the ancient park of Rodini. In this park you would think that you are in an earthly paradise.

 

Full of shady plane trees, running water, ponds with water lilies crossed by wooden bridges, ducks, as well as peacocks. It is a destination that you will love if you visit it.

 

The entrance is free.
 

IALYSOS

Η Ιαλυσός βρίσκεται στο βορειοδυτικό τμήμα του νησιού, απέχει 8 χιλ. από το κέντρο της ρόδου και είναι το μεγαλύτερο χωριό στο νησί.

 

Η παραλία στην ιαλυσό είναι 10 χιλ. σε μήκος και είναι μια από της πιο θυελλώδεις στη δυτική πλευρά του νησιού. Είναι ιδανική αν αγαπάτε το windsurfing/kitesurfing.

Στο μέρος αυτό μπορείτε να κάνετε βόλτα, να φάτε να πιείτε,

ποτό/καφέ κατά μήκος της ακτής.
 

Στο συγκεκριμένο μέρος μπορείτε να επισκεφθείτε την εκκλησία της Κοιμησης της Θεοτόκου. Και το βουνό Φιλέρημος.

Στη φιλέρημο θα συναντήσετε παγώνια να περπατούν δίπλα σας, το μοναστήρι της Παναγιάς της φιλερήμου, ο δρόμος του Γολγοθά το οποίο οδηγεί σε ένα μεγάλο Σταυρό 70 μέτρων. 

 

Στις πλευρές του δρόμου του Γολγοθά υπάρχουν αναπαραστάσεις των Παθών του Χριστού. Στη φιλέρημο υπάρχει αναψυκτήριο, πού μπορείτε να πιείτε και να φάτε σνακ.

KAMIROS

Η κάμειρος βρίσκεται στη βορειοδυτική ακτή του νησιού, 

3 Χιλ. δυτικά του χωριού καλαβάρδα.

Μπαινοντας απο ροδο για καμειρο στα αριστερα ειναι η αρχαια καμειρος, Στον αρχαιολογικό χώρο της Καμείρου σώζονται τα ερείπια της ελληνιστικής, ρωμαϊκής πόλης της Καμείρου και της γειτονικής νεκρόπολης, τα οποία ανακαλύφθηκαν κατά τη διάρκεια ανασκαφών το έτος 1859 και κυρίως κατά την περίοδο της κατοχής του νησιού από τους Ιταλούς (1912 -1943). Από την κλασσική πόλη διατηρείται η πρόσοψη υστεροκλασικής κρήνης, καθώς και κάποιοι τοίχοι στην αγορά της.

Είναι από τους πιο αρχαίους οικισμούς, του οποίου το αρχιτεκτονικό σχέδιο μπορείτε να το δείτε όπως ήταν και τότε.

Φεύγοντας από την αρχαία κάμειρο, κατά μήκος της ακτής, μπορείτε να απολαύσετε το φαγητό σας σε μια από τις ψαροταβέρνες με θέα το απέραντο γαλάζιο της θάλασσας.

Από το λιμανάκι της καμείρου μπορείτε να επισκεφθείτε τη Χάλκη, η χάλκη απέχει περίπου 20 Χιλ. από το λιμάνι της καμείρου, και είναι μια ευκαιρία να απολαύσετε τα καταγάλανα νερά της και μια μοναδική εμπειρία από το νησί.

KRITINIA

Η Κρητηνία είναι ένα από τα ωραιότερα χωριά της Ρόδου και απέχει 50 χλμ. από την πόλη, και 4 από το χωριό της Καμείρου,

Είναι κτισμένη σε ύψωμα και διαθέτει πανοραμική θέα με φόντο τα δάση, τη θάλασσα και το μεσαιωνικό κάστρο.

Κοντά στην περιοχή της Καμείρου Σκάλας και δίπλα από το χωριό της Κρητηνίας, βρίσκεται το φρούριο της Κρητηνίας.

Το κάστρο της Κρητηνίας είναι μείγμα Βυζαντινής και Μεσαιωνικής τεχνοτροπίας και μέσα υπάρχουν τα ερείπια της Καθολικής εκκλησίας του Αγίου Παύλου, καθώς και νεώτερα κτίσματα, γιατί το Κάστρο χρησιμοποιήθηκε επί Ενετοκρατίας σαν Ναύσταθμος (Μαρινέρα). Είναι ορθογώνιο και το βόρειο τμήμα βλέπει προς τη θάλασσα και τη Χάλκη.

To κάστρο δημιουργήθηκε το 1472 από τον Giorgio Orsini για την προστασία των κατοίκων απέναντι στις επιθέσεις του τουρκικού στόλου. Η κατασκευή του ολοκληρώθηκε τον 16ο αιώνα επί ηγεμονίας Caretto.

 

Μετά από όλα αυτά μπορείτε να απολαύσετε το μπάνιο σας στη μικρή γραφική παραλία του χωριού, Κοπριά.

Εκεί μπορείτε να απολαύσετε το μπάνιο σας, και μπορείτε να φάτε κ να πιείτε από τη ψαροταβέρνα στη παραλία.

Η ξαπλώστρες είναι δωρεάν.

GLYFADA BEACH

Απόσταση από Ρόδο 63 χιλ. Μη οργανωμένη παραλία με βότσαλο, άνεμο και με πεύκα γύρο από τη θάλασσα!

 

Έχει θέα στο νησί της Χάλκης και διαθέτει 2 μικρές ταβέρνες!

 

EMPONAS VILLAGE

Ημιορεινό χωριό σε υψόμετρο 430 μέτρων.

Βρίσκεται 52 χιλ νοτιοδυτικά της Ρόδου στης πλαγιές του ατταβύρου. Η περιοχή φημίζεται για τα κρασιά της, και Αύγουστο το χωριό γιορτάζει τη γιορτή του κρασιού!

Στο χωριό υπάρχουν άριστης ποιότητας ταβέρνες και εστιατόρια.

 

FOURNI BEACH

Απόσταση από Ρόδο 76 χιλ. Μη οργανωμένη παραλία με βότσαλο, άμμο και βράχους.  Μια Απομονωμένη παραλία που αν την επισκεφθείτε Θα πρέπει να είστε εξοπλισμένοι με νερό φαγητό και ομπρέλες θαλάσσης!

 

Μεταξύ παραλίας και του χωριού μονόλιθος βρίσκεται το κάστρο της Μονολιθου!

Στη είσοδο και δεξιά του κάστρο υπάρχει μια μικρή καντίνα με φαγητό!

Στο χωριό Μονόλιθος επίσης υπάρχουν καταλύματα το οποίο μπορείτε και να μείνετε.

 

KALITHEA SPRINGS

Απόσταση από Ρόδο 9 χιλ.

Ιαματικές πηγές Καλλιθέας Πλήρως αποκατεστημένο και καλόγουστα ανακαινισμένο ήδη από την 1η Ιουλίου 2007, το συγκρότημα των Πηγών Καλλιθέας έχει και πάλι ανοίξει τις πύλες του για το κοινό, καλωσορίζοντας όλους τους επισκέπτες στους ανασκευασμένους χώρους τους στη μεγαλόπρεπη τοποθεσία πάνω στη θάλασσα.

 

Η γραφική παραλία με τα κρυστάλλινα, πεντακάθαρα νερά φιλοξενεί εκατοντάδες επισκέπτες κάθε μέρα ενώ ο βυθός, γνωστός για την ομορφιά και τη μοναδική του ποικιλία αποτελεί πόλο έλξης διαφόρων οργανωμένων προγραμμάτων δυτών που έρχονται για να τον θαυμάσουν.

 

Το ιστορικό καφέ στο γραφικό λιμανάκι – πλήρως ανακαινισμένο κι αυτό – καλωσορίζει τους πελάτες του όλη την ημέρα. Στις πηγές Καλλιθέας μπορείτε επίσης να επισκεφθείτε το μουσείο που βρίσκεται εσωτερικά.

 

Κατάλληλο για γαμήλιες δεξιώσεις που το προτιμούν τη καλοκαιρινή περίοδο τουρίστες. Στη περιοχή υπάρχει δωρεάν πάρκινγκ.

 

FALIRAKI

Faliraki is the main seaside village on the island of Rhodes. It is located 14km from the city of Rhodes and 10km from the airport.

 

It is one of the most popular and cosmopolitan resorts of Rhodes, many tourists, mostly youngsters, visit the faliraki because it is famous for its nightlife and entertainment.

It has one of the largest and best organized beaches in Greece.

Its length reaches 5km and has many marine extreme sports.

Faliraki also has a famous water park, which is the largest in Europe

 

ANTHONY QUINN BAY

It is 17 km from the city of Rhodes and 3 km from Faliraki.

 

It is the most famous Greek beach in Europe, from the movie

"The Cannons of Navarone" in 1960. It was named after the famous American actor of the film, Anthony Quinn. And the name was given by the locals in his honor.

The beach is a magical cove, it is a rocky beach 250 meters long with vegetation and crystal clear blue waters.

 

It features umbrellas, sunbeds and a small tavern.

 

LADIKO

It is 15km from the city of Rhodes.

it is next to Antony Quinn Beach, It features fine sand, rocks, sunbeds and umbrellas and two separate sandy beaches.

 

It has been awarded with the Blue Flag.

 

TRAOUNOU BEACH

It is 18.5 km from the city of Rhodes and 4.5 km from faliraki. It has a long beach, with sunbeds and umbrellas in some places.

The beach has small pebbles and sand, and a sea where deepens abruptly.

At the beginning of the beach, there is a cave.

 

KOLYMBIA

It is 25km from the city of Rhodes.

 

Quiet beach with sand and fine pebbles, with umbrellas, sunbeds and sea bicycles.

 

There are also hotels and taverns with fresh fish in the area. It has been awarded with Blue Flag.

 

SEVEN SPRINGS

They are located near the Kolimbia area. The name comes from the 7 real springs from chich comes from the river Lutani. The water that rises forms a small river that passes through a narrow tunnel and ends up in a lake.

The construction of the tunnel, and the whole area began, in 1920 and was completed in 1931. The tunnel is 150 meters long and 13 meters deep.

In the middle of the tunnel, there is a well, which serves as an air duct. After the tunnel there is a waterfall, where the waters end up there.

The lake has a depth of 1 to 8 meters and a length of about 200 meters.

 

TSAMBIKA MONANTERY

It is located on the top of a rock at a height of 326 meters. It is 31km from the city of Rhodes, And it is next to Tsambika beach.

 

Panagia Tsampika is a monastery in Rhodes. It consists of the old and new monastery, named by the locals the "High" and the "Low"

 

TSAMBIKA BEACH

It is located 31 km from the city of Rhodes.

It's under the rock

which hosts the famons monastery of Panagia Tsampika Psili.

 

It has golden sand, blue waters, umbrellas, sunbeds, canteens and water sports facilities. It has been awarded with Blue Flag.

It is one of the most beautiful beaches of Rhodes.

 

Locals and tourists prefer it.

 

SAINT FANOURIOS

It is s located right next to Tsambika Beach. And you can see mainly from the sea.

 

It has crystal clear waters and does not have sunbeds and umbrellas.

 

STEGNA

It is 33 km from the city of Rhodes.

 

It took its name due to its dryness and its wilderness, It is a beach of sand and pebble, with umbrellas and sunbeds, water sports, and taverns.

 

AGATHI

It is located next to the village of charaki, and 37 km from the city of Rhodes and 10km from Lindos.

 

The beach is sandy and less windy, with umbrellas, sunbeds and

canteens.

 

Feraklos Castle, it is located on a rocky hill above Haraki, between the beaches of Agathi and Haraki, It is built at an altitude of 85 meters. The castle was built after 1467. It had a visual contact with the castle of Lindos.

 

At the inhabitants of the surrounding villages used to go there. It was abandoned in the 16th century.

 

CHARAKI

It is 38 km from the city of Rhodes. It is a beach that mostly visits families. It has pebbles and sand and rocks, also in one part of the beach has umbrellas and sunbeds.

 

On the coastal road there are taverns, restaurants and cafes.

 

LINDOS

Located 47 km from the city of Rhodes. It's one of the most famous and cosmopolitan place in Rhodes.

 

Lindos beach is below from the homonymous settlement. It has quiet, crystal clear, shallow waters, two sandy beaches,

with umbrellas, sunbeds and taverns. It has been awarded the Blue Flag.

 

Acropolis of Lindos: It's. 3rd on traffic, all over Greece. It was the strongest castle after that of the city of Rhodes. The 324 BC after from a devastating fire, the temple was rebuilt in its final form.

 

SAINT PAULS BAY

It is 50 km from the city of Rhodes, is located in a small bay with two small beaches very close to Lindos. It has umbrellas and sunbeds, has crystal clear green waters with pebbles and sand.

PEFKI

The beach is one of the most impressive beaches. On the left side the sea is calm. On the right side, it has very wind.

 

Ideal area for swimming, kitesurfing and similar sports. While the free camp is allowed.
